'Nestled beneath the Chipata Mountain, a vast network of rivers weave their way through wooded hills, nourishing the dense miombo forests that make up Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve' African Parks Nkhotakota

It is located in the central region, a 3 hour drive for Lilongwe and 30 km to Lake Malawi. This is the largest (1800 km2) and oldest game reserve in Malawi. This remote wilderness is made up of Miombo woodland, large patches of tall grasses, rivers and ocasional rainforest.

African Parks and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife started one of the world's largest wildlife translocations and brought the Wildlife Reserve back to life. The park received in 2016-2017 500 elephants and over 1500 other animals. from Liwonde over a 2 year period. The park now has 600 elefants, bufallo, hippo, kudo and sable antilope, itinerant lion and over 280 different bird species. Tourism is now flourishing while almost have the Wildlife Reserve to one self.  The views are truely awesome! There are good acomodations and game drives available. Walking safari or hiking is possible with the services of a ranger or guide. Boat safari by canoe or fishing down the Bua River is also a posiblity. If you like to go off the beaten track, this is your Wildlife Reserve!
