Kusangalala House

Welcome to Kusangalala House – “The Happy House”

Privately owned by a long-time Malawi resident with a deep love for nature and trees, Kusangalala House is the perfect escape for travellers seeking peace, privacy, and the beauty of Lake Malawi. Nestled among thick indigenous trees on the lakeshore, the house offers direct access to its own secluded beach, complete with soft white/yellow sand and natural rock boundaries—your very own slice of paradise.
The house is well-equipped for a comfortable stay and is ideal for groups looking to enjoy eco-tourism with all the essential amenities. You’ll be cared for by friendly staff and night guards, and a cook can be arranged upon request. While the cottage is self-catering, essentials can be found in nearby Chintheche, and we encourage guests to support the local fishermen by buying fresh fish, just ask our team to assist.

Directions

Travel the main M1 road from Lilongwe to Mzuzu, using either the Airport route or the Santhe road to Kasungu (100km). Once at Kasungu, travel North towards Mzuzu and then onto Nkhata Bay turnoff. Once at Nkhata Bay turnoff, there is a fork, and the right hand road loops round to the lakeshore road. This takes you towards Chintheche (47km) and Kande Beach (60km). Once you get to Chintheche trading centre, drive through and pass through Malaza trading centre. You will see a sign on your left hand side for SUNGA MOYO campsite. Take this turn and at the school turn right and follow signs to this lodge (4km). KUSANGALALA is next to Sunga Moyo once you get to the lake shore.

The lake shore route via Salima is not in great condition so take the main M1 road to Bandawe.  If you want to break up the journey then you can stop for a night or two at Kawandama Hills Plantation cottage in Viphya Plantation, contact us or chek out on Airbnb or Makondo retreat in Mzuzu.
