Primary school is free and mandated, generally children do not attend pre-school.  83% of the children attend primary school at the age of six and 43% finish primary school. Children are still taught to assist their parents in work from an early age. After primary school education is not free and only 19 % of the primary school students go to high school and 43% finish. Transportation and the lack of funds is the issue here. Primary school classes are full and often have big (play) yards. To walk into a school on the fly would be disrupting the class.  Some guides can take you there to benefit the school and yourself, such as Mulanje Adventures.
