One of Malawi wonders! Chikala Pillars are a natural sandstone feature unlike anything else in Malawi. the pillars are mysterious formations of nature, look like something out of a fairy tale.
Chikala Pillars also known as Malape by the locals, are located in Machinga District in Southern Region of Malawi
The pillars’ were formed due to puddles of crystals which protect the columns of grit underneath as the rains erode the surrounding unprotected areas. As the sides of the canyon erode and the crystal blocks tumble off, beautifully sculpted pinnacles remain.
At Malosa township ( Zomba) head towards the Department of Forestry offices . About 20 minutes down the dirt road the road branches left . After bluegum plantations there is a place you can park your vehicles. We strongly recommend 4 x 4 vehicles
