Groceries and shopping
Lilongwe and Blantyre city have European style shopping malls and supermarkets, but Malawi’s unique shopping experience takes place in its street markets found in every city, town and village. Malawi also has its art and curios made from talented craftspeople. Some also carve wood in teak, ebony, and mahogany traditional souvenirs with carvings based on artifacts still in use in everyday life.

Some crafts are made from recycled materials such as bottle tops, wires, plastic, and other things. Other goods include traditional textiles and clothing, beadwork and jewelry, carved soapstone figures, cane or raffia baskets, and decorative containers.
In Lilongwe the crafts market in the old town market has a variety of high quality artifacts. It has a lot of shopping malls including Crossroads Complex, but also the largest shopping mall, Gateway mall, located in Area 47 Sector 1.
Blantyre being the commercial city, also has a wide range of shops and malls, the famous one being the Chichiri shopping Center which consists shops and banks according to your choice. There are also places where curios are made at a place called ‘Ziboliboli’ in Blantyre town. A Great selection of linnens, artifacts, carvings, paintings etc. can be bought next to Caffe Grazia and Café Mandala.
